We recently engaged in a mentoring exercise, where we worked alongside a client. While we provided the design, colour, overall vision - including plant expertise, they provided the labour and a timescale they were comfortable with.
Knowing that potential lay within, we decided the only way we would make a contemporary garden was to get back to a blank canvas.
Several levels were to be removed and all stone surfaces abolished and returned to life through grass or planting.
Two items were saved from the skip, the swing set and the shed.
Stripped of all plants and with beds marked out the garden looks enormous already. Bold decisions pay off when evidence of colour choices appear.
Hard work to remove but worth the effort as concrete gives way to earth.
It will not stay this empty for too long. This cleared corner once held a greenhouse on a solid concrete base.
Once plants arrive, the colours come into their own.
Having chosen the right plants and placed them according to a grid, all that is left to do is plant them.
Its almost like planting by numbers. This garden was planted in November so its not a bad colour show for that time of year. We will return in Sring to check on progress and oversee phase three then.
