Hydrangeas in Dublin City

Last summer, I  found this arresting view while driving past a gerogian house in Dublin city.

A whole row of Hydrangea Annabelle. It makes for a stunning row of plants and looked particularly beautiful in the late summer sunshine.

Multiple planting of singe species can be very effective. You get a real visual blast for a certain period - in this case July - Septembers. The downside is there will not be much plant interest in this border at other times of the year, particularly during winter

These hydrangeas are suited to sun or semi-shade. The creamy round heads have slight green tinge. Unlike the better known blue and pink hydrangeas (macrophyllas), Annabelle blooms every year even after severe pruning. For this reason some people plant 'Annabelle' as a hedge since it can be cut back severely in the winter for a tidy effect.
